How to do a proper Ventrogluteal injection

I'm posting this bit of information because the majority of newbies are injecting far too low into their gluteus maximus and risking serious damage to their sciatic nerve and major blood vessels. The ventrogluteal injection site is much safer and actually recommended by BD and most new nursing textbooks. As a bonus it is much less painful and can handle the largest volume injections. Here are a series of photographs and diagrams to help you landmark the site, my only recommendation is not to inject too far forward on your hip, the medical diagram is a bit misleading, the howtodoinjections and the bodybuilding photos are right on spot.





Also if you have trouble doing this injection standing up you can do it laying down. Just get a bunch of pillows and prop up your back and shoulders then roll over to about 45 degrees and relax your leg, you should then be able to easily inject and stabilize with your free hand.

Obviously landmarking this site in the way that the medical diagram illustrates is not possible on your own so what I do is stand in the mirror and flex my ass until I can clearly see the gluteus medius muscle bulging out and then I basically poke it a bit and find the meatiest spot then press my needle(with the cap on) and leave a small red mark so I don't lose my landmark then swab, run under hot water(if you're a pussy ) and inject.

Thanks blackson... great post and i like this spot... you should do one on shoulders .. this is one i want to try but would like a personal experience instruction rather than what i can Google for the general public.

ill be honest to say, ive never pinned my glutes. only shoulders,quads and tri.. when i try to twist like that my side begins to cramp.and id have to aspirate with one hand and inj. pain in the ass (haha)my chest gets in the way when i try to reach back with the opposite hand,wish i knew someone to do it for me.

I like spotinjections.com for it's photos of actual people but their glute series is a perfect example of where you shouldn't be injecting.

This is where I have always pinned. Only other spots I have were tear drop and delts.
