So I was warming up. 135 lbs, and I dont know what happened, I guess I wasnt paying attention and the bar rolled off my wrists and fell on my upper chest.
So I get it back up to the pins, get up. I had a little trouble breathing, and was fuckin embarassed if it happened...
I warmed up more, did incline bench (up to 255 5 reps clean:D ) but when I went to do dips it hurt. just bodyweight dips too. same with decline. pain in the cleavage part of my chest, which is below where the bar hit.
I did some flys, did tri's (great tri workout today) and now I am home. Looks like I will have a bruise. I am sure I will.
soooo..this ever happened to anyone else? I dont have lifting gloves, would they help? what can I expect bruise wise? I am thinking by next friday I should be good to go...at least I hope so. I am thinking this shouldnt affect my other workouts (back, shoulders).
thanks bro's..
You are very lucky it hit your chest and not your throat. The small accident is the one that will kill you. Hope you are just sore and no fractures. After you sleep you will know.

thanks bro's..Walk it off. Rub some dirt on it. You'll be alright. Your sternum is flexible. If it was serious, it would hurt to breathe.
I once threw a pair of dumbells on the rack and one rolled right off onto the top of my foot. Not my toes, the top of my foot. I'm not kidding when I say that hurt for at least a year, maybe longer.

I'm sure you will be all right, if you were seriously hurt you would know it by now. Just be glad it was 135 pounds and not 315! lol

my bro dropped 365 from almost full lockout onto his stomach while warming up for the meet. he was sore as hell for 2 weeks and had a little trouble breathing but he's fine now. hell even after that he still set PR's on bench, and pulled 605 in the 181 weight class.
bottom line is i think you'll be alright in a few days. get some freakin chalk and dont get any pussy weightlifting gloves. they weaken your grip for one, because they limit how much of your hand you can actually get around the bar. plus they just look gay :D

Wow.... I take it that you didn't have your thumb wrapped around. Bad habbit to do. Hope you don't ever drop anything heavy.
Saw someone drop 205lb on his chest and nobody was around to quickly get it up and he tried pushing it up and somehow it ended up on his face. Dude was yelling "help me, help me, help me, help me" but it sound funny like someone had a 205lbs weight on his mouth. kinda like a chipmunk.

Christ, that sucks!
I dropped once, scared the bejesus out of me! I managed it surprisingly well, just completely dropped one side and chucked my hand over to my other hand and focused everything on one side of the bar... managed to hold that side up with the other side crashing to the floor ha

BUMP! i do agree. make sure to have a good spotter as well. even when doing squats. you dont want 500lbs crushing down on you just cause you messed up your form.

Oliva was a BB out of his time...15 years before his time!
MUCH RESPECT!
About 10 years ago I took an impact to the chest and broke my sternum.. TRUST me you would have known if this had happened to you. I was 7 weeks into a cycle, and obviously my training immediately halted for 3 months. I have broke many bones, one arm 3 times, and NOTHING even comes close to the pain you feel with a broken sternum. The worst part.. The doc says "I have some bad news, and some worse news. Bad news: you have a broken sternum. Worse news: there's NOTHING I can do for it, here's a prescription for perc"
it SUCKED
