My wife had been having severe shoulder pain, instability, numbness, and weakness. We went to a speacialist, and to get MRI's done. The speacialist sent us to a surgeon, and he wanted to do a double fusion immediately. We did further research and decided to go with every alternative before doing surgery. She has been doing massage and chiropractic for approximately one month now with great results. All of the symptoms have subsided except for the instability, which can be fixed with exercise now that she has been released to continue exercising. She is already getting a curve in her neck which was straight before these treatments began. My question is what do you guys think about chiropractic care? There is alot of skepticism on this subject, so I thought I would ask you guys here what you thought, because I had some x-rays done and my neck actually has a negative two degree curve which means it is starting to curve the opposite direction. I think it is from a bad car accident I was in back in 98. The Dr. immediately asked me if I had any lower back pain which I do. I have not been able to do deadlifts in over a year, and my squats are not so great either due to the lower back pain. I figure it would be worth a shot. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

i've got a buddy who has bad neck problems and says going to the chiropracter was one of the best decisions hes made. other people will say it's pointless to go to one, but its worth a try if you ask me.

Chiropractors can work some great magic. I used to see one quite regularly back when I rodeoed. It seemed to be the only thing that could keep me going. I've been to quite a few of them some are better than others. Sometimes it takes a while to find a good one.

My chiropractor really helped me out with some back pain I was having, the rest has been fixed by building up muscle so there is not so much strain.

Yeah the chiropracter told me if it weren't for all the muscle I would have alot of spinal degeneration. I think it is worth a shot, and I found out my insurance will pay for 80% of it. Thanks Guys!

I was going t a chiro- for about 9 mos. It was fantastic and I always recommend
going to one... if you can afford it/or insurance will cover it, if so take advantage. Alot of companies won't acknowledge them as Drs.
Like Bullman said it may take awhile to find a good 1. My 1st was the best but the 2nd one was like a Mcdonalds Chiro, in and out 5 mins with no real regard for the patients. So be careful when choosing, after all they're basically maneuvering your central nervous syst. one wrong move and its "Hello, wheel chair'' or worse. Oh Yeah make sure your wife asks about having the electrodes placed on her back after Chiro care... theyre awesome and she'll feel so good after.

I would recommend yoga and stretching first. The fundamental concept behind yoga is the elongation of the spine. Once the skeletal muscles surrounding the spine and other bones are relaxed, elastic, and supple then the bones will naturally align themselves. There is a huge amount of empirical evidence about this. if the muscles continue to be tight around your bones they will continue to pull things out of place. Every time I do yoga my spine cracks back into place and I can feel the tension release and the pressure subside. People claim to have even repaired degenerative disorders of the back such as slipped discs or deteriorated discs from regular practice of yoga.
I don't understand everything about the purpose of chiropratic treatment but I do believe that there are more long term solutions to the problem. The trouble is that yoga takes more discipline and time to see results, hence its greater longevity, whereas you can go get your bones cracked in minutes. It's the difference between instant gratification and a long term solution.
That's my 2 cents. I wouldn't discount what the other members here say either. She could definitely try both and see what works for her but remember, yoga will take more time and practice to get good at.
Good luck to her on her recovery.

I will definately look into the yoga for my wife. My problem is that I don't stretch near enough. When my workouts start running long I put off stretching.

I used to completely blow off stretching when I first started lifting as bein for the "yoga" types. Then I started using Dante's DoggCrapp routine which has dynamic stretching as one of its key components. I figger it's made all the difference in the world - I have some scoliosis in my upper back thats bugged me since I was a kid. Since I started stretchin it hasnt bugged me a bit. I figger it don't jus help keep my fucked up back in tune but also affects my gains. Makes sense if yer stretchin the muscle fascia ya have more room for the muscle to grow. I'm hooked on it now - I see lotsa dudes that never stretch nothin at the gym now and wonder how I went without it.

The chiropractor seemed to draw out the problem longer for me.
I purchased one of these table called teeter hang ups( you can google it) and I do this at home.

This uses your natural bodyweight and realigns your spine. I get home climb in this thing and watch TV it's one the best investments I've made. No more pain.

yoga will rock your world. i never thought you could sweat from stretching.

i went to barnes and noble, got a yoga dvd + like 22 cards, and its amazing how much it helps.

i had lower back pain for a long time from a restuarant injury. it was an easy way to go to the doc and get $15 copay massages.

i will bever do any surgery if i dont have to, especially back. my uncle got back surgery, now hes addicted to morphine lollipops and has no career.

IMO everyone should do yoga because its biomechanically correct for your body. helps your posture...

PLUS yoga class, 95% women. some r kinda weird though. into trees and earth shit to much.:D
