Don't know your overall goal but I would keep protien high and cals. to what you need so as not to lose to much muscle...Also work what you can...what about some legs and at least lower back if not upper...don't know your stats but maybe this gives you a chance to lean up...

Absolutely agree... work what you can... if you have to get a shoulder wrap or something to restrict your movements there... do that also... but don't stop anything else...

If I am not mistaken... you should still be able to go through certain motions without causing further damage... just can't use much weight at all

Good luck with that :p

I absolutely dissagree. My advice would be stay out of the gym and let your body heal. How will know what you can do or cant do until you do it, and then determine it was a mistake?

I was in a car wreck five years ago, left sholder was a mess. fractured. I was so bummed (not on gear at the time but still in the gym) and dissapointed. I was out for over three months, went to physical therapy and rebuilt strength and motion. When I got back to the gym I was very hesitant, and took it slow, but quickly realized I could be back where I was soon. and I was. yes it sucked being out but when I went back I was good to go.

If you must go, dont touch the free weights. I couldnt do it, to be honest, as soon as I felt a little better I would "try" and just f things up more. If your partially healed and re injur your shoulder your looking at six months or more 100% away from the gym. think about it.

Take a break. let your body rest.

I know how you feel bro. I had a partially torn tendon in my right shoulder about 4 years ago. For about 6 months all I did was cardio and abs. Once I was health I came and was in much better condition and I noticed my workouts were a lot better than before my injury due to that conditioning.

I know it's tough but give it a break, let your body heal and come back healthy. Keep a good diet. Maintain your protein and your calorie intake and hit the gym for cardio until you can come back full strength.

Also, listen to your body. It will tell when your good to go.

Stay strong and positive.

Maybe I am wrong but I thought it was shoulder and arm pain... not the whole body..

And yes I agree with taking a break and giving your body a rest... when the whole body needs it.

My husband went back to the gym two weeks after acromium surgery...with the brace and shoulder wrap... and limited his weight and movement... and still worked the other body parts...

What works for one will not work for another... but it's all good ;) I guess it depend on self discipline and self control too!!

Torn cartilage sounds a bit bad but not as bad as a torn tendon. Just lay low and lift lighter weights. Like Al said, definitely listen to your body (ie: your shoulder) and if it starts hurting stop lifting and come back the next day. Are you going to need surgery?

I have had the same problem a ways back and used it as an excuse to bring my legs up to par. I did reduce my calories a bit since i was only in the gym twice a week until my shoulder healed.
takes forever to load up the leg press machine with one hand though, so I just hit the machines with the pin loaded weights.
I think it was cybex or nautilus at the time.

My brother is going through the same thing. (He's in physical therapy now.) I agree with Tyrone, except for the back part. It's too easy to end up putting shoulder into the exercises. Listen to the doc and your body. I'd do legs and abs for the next 3 months and keep my protein levels high and adjust my carbs as necessary. After 3 months, your legs will be awesome, abs will rock, and you'll be ready to roll! If you completely tear your shoulder, you be out another 4-6 months !! Don't risk it.
