opening ampules....

I have an ampule opener that now seems to be dulling out and instead of cutting its cracking the ampule which isnt good.. This one was given to me from a friend and I cannot seem to find a sight that sells syringes that also sells openers... any suggestions to other methods to get a clean cut or a website where i can obtain one..??

I almost always just snap the top off using a towel to prevent cutting my hand - no cutter - and have never had a problem. But if you really want a opener try this site, http://www.gpzusa.com. Look under "Products."

Yea Ive never used an amp opener....I know some are tough to snap off though. Ive had a few break in my hand :eek: :mad:

On the hard to open ones I do like White Knight mentioned...
Just wrap the base up in a rag or towel and tap the neck with
the butt end of a butterknife. lol probably not the most elegant way
but it works :D

Just score the line with a sharp knife or razor blade, hold bottom with a towel and cap the top with a sharpy pen top, snap!! done & done. :D

Use the Wife or girlfriend nail file.....Not the metal kind...the and paper kind...Called an emer board...at least in the older day...I remember my grandmother saying where is my emery board....

File completly around the glass...Wrap and then snap..

i've opened two amps so far with the amp opener and both times the top shattered after opening, the actual amp was ok.. but im affraid of glass getting in the oil i just oredered a filter.. but any recommendations? thanks guys

Go to Home Depot or Lowes(any hardware store), they have small files. I have one thats triangle shaped and it works great.

Cous, get a triangle file, it's small about 6" long, go around the amp 2-3 times(don't file threw it), if you want wipe the outside of the amp down with a towel or something and snap it. It'll be perfect, nice smooth break.
No more jagging edges, don't have to worry about slipping with a knife or razor and best of all no more broken amps. I hated that!

sweet, where can i get one of those triangle files? and will that be good for the broken glass? also dont you worry bout the glass getting in the oil?

Sears has them, ask someone ware they keep the files. It's about 6" long. It's small

All these ideas are great but why not just get the amp opener at gpz that whiteknight recommened? They are only 6 bucks!!Seems like a pain in the ass to me to use a file every time.

It's not bad the file is small, its probable not the kind your thinking of. Score the amp and snap it.
I'd rather have a little file in my junk draw the amp opener. Sure nothing like using the right to for the right job, but the file will work good also

I have used a serrated kitchen knife around the neck several timesthen wipe with alcohol to get it clean and use the swab or paper towel to protect your fingers then just don't hesitate to snap. when i hesitate i crush it. then i bought the amp opener but i can tell its dull after80-100 uses. your choice but the opener works nice for 1-2 cyclesthen toss it. my .02:)
