View Full Version : BP Vial Aluminum Ring: Tearing too easily when removing cap!

Gear = Sustamed
Has anyone else had problems with the aluminum rings on the BP vials tearing too easily? My first vial it tore completely off one side, and of course the rubber stopper/plunger then wants to come out too easily. I was *VERY* careful to remove it. The 2nd vial it started to tear, but I was able to save it by putting a butterknife down on it and then tear the cap off. For the 3rd vial, it attempted to do it again, and once again i was able to save it.
You will notice there is a small arrow embossed on the aluminum outer ring, so that is where you are to tear "UP". The underside of the cap is suppose to "snap/break" off in a multitude of places, but there is only 5 breakaway points, and the last 1/4 of the cap doesn't have any. It almost seems as if they designed the cap to not come completely off, but instead fold back. Am I missing something here? All other gear I've dealt with in the past broke cleanly off, and had breakaway points around the entire ring.
Thanks in advance!

Yeah it's been a major complaint from everyone and I believe BP is doing something about it so hopefully we don't have to deal with it in the future.

I think you missed what I said above, buddy. ;)

However, it doesn't work as easy as you put it. I'll take pictures on the next one, and post them in this thread, so you can see what I'm referring to.

Thanks blackson, you confirmed what I thought, big guy. I really appreciate it. You're a HUGE help on this site, FYI.

the trick ive found is where ever the arrow is pop the top with your thumb on the opposite side. works like a charm.

This has been a constant complaint... I do think they are trying to fix the problem though.
It doesn't really affect me though, I am just extra careful when drawing from the vials and so far no accidents.

exactly but after lifting and pushing back the top over the course of use the tin on the fold breaks

Lol, It just happened to me twenty minutes ago.
I tore a little of the aluminum ring, but not too bad.
Listen, I wanted to ask, after I pop off the cap (at the arrows)
do I stab right through the grey rubber, or does that come off too?
I'm asking because I used to see sponge-tops, but I am afraid if I tear off the grey rubber, I might have an open bottle on my hands.
If there is a sticky on this, I have not found it.
Thanks,
Paul

Thanks PV,
Yea, after thinking about it, I figured the purpose of the aluminum ring was to keep it on lol.
My bathroom, where I had used it and left it for a couple of hours afterward, smelled of test when I came to use the bathroom later on. Have you experienced this? I since wapped the bottle-top in Saran wrap to stop the smell before people start asking what it is. That, and I found a less obvious hiding place lol.

And you don't tear the cap right off,it stays attached so you can push it back on after use.I wonder if the people who are tearing the foil are the ones who remove the cap compleatly.
