Best amp open I've had

I just used a new razorblade to score firm(not to hard around) once. Then I popped it off with a doubled over paper towel. It was the cleanest break I've had. I bought an amp opener and there is always some sort of breakage. Maybe I don't do it exactly correct but it has never been close to as clean as a break as tonight. This is the way I will use for now on. :D

I can tell you this, I have noticed over the years that some amps do open better by hand than with an opener. I have tried everything with Organon Sustanon, and I still have to pop them by hand. They seem to crush with an opener.

I also got one from gpz, and it never breaks clean?? When I use a steak knife it breaks clean, but man it always takes too damn long to score around the amp!!!!

Thats the one I have. It only works for me on some, and definately not Organon sust. Friggin thing just crushes the whole amp in your hands right?

Yeah, except for the time saved it was a waste of money (the 6.50 I spent on it could have went on one more amp)!!!!! Being impatient sucks because the steak knife works real good (and it's a good warm up on the wrist)!!!!!

amp openers have always worked very well for me. i think you have to get the right "feel" and pressure on it or else you might break the side of the amp

One thing I can never get to open without breakage are the HCG amps. No matter what (file, gpz amp opener, pen cap, etc.) Anyone know the secret?

I did find it to be good on other amps though. For some reason the Organon amps are better opened by hand.

Someone mentioned HCG amps. I haven't used HCG yet, but OuchThatHurts does all of the time, he might be able to shed some light.

I have to tell you, those Organon sust amps are a pain. There's no doubt about it. I never scored them and occasionally I'd watch as a small piece of glass floated to the bottom of my oil. Very irritating occupational hazard. I've never used an amp open either. What I do is shake all the oil/solution down into the amp which I hold lightly and then using my thumb I press the entire lenth of the head with thumb pointing at the amp. And with a swift bend I snap it off.

Truth is, is your always going to get a few that break no matter what you use and scoring is bad because that is going to get microscopic glass particles floating around which will certainly get sucked into an 18-25 gauge pin. The HCG is so cheap if I have one where glass falls into the amp, it goes in the trash.

Maybe you strongmen are just muscling these little things to hard? I also heard a pen cap works well but to me, that just seems like it would be to unforgiving. The cap is almost as hard as the amp.

Another way to look at is if you worked in a factory, where you had to open amps all day long, a few might break apart your first day, but after that, you'd be poppin' those amps open just fine.

I use filter needles when I draw up my amps...never have to worry about a bad open :D . It's the only way to go is you do not have the best technique for popping amps. Later.

Your suppose to break the top off?? Crap, I've just been chewing the whole amp up and swallowing it like a candy. :D

Actually I got some disposable amp openers, there fairly cheap and work nicely, but you still have to do some prep on the amp. I use a file that has 3 sides, sort of triangular shaped. I score the amp a little, sometimes a half circle or a bit more using one of the 3 edges on the file. Slip the disposable amp opener over the top and line up the flexible portion of the amp opener with the score mark. Have piece of paper towel handy that is folded up so it's several layers thick, about 6 inches long and two inches wide. Wrap it around the bottom of the amp, and hold it firmly at the bottom, and gently, apply pressure away from the scored area to snap the top off. Keep the paper towel firm around the bottom and slip it out of the amp opener. Sounds a bit overdone, but I have 100% success rate that way, and I sure as hell don't like wasting even one amp. I've tried every other recommended method, theory, etc., but this works the best for me. Just gotta make sure your holding the bottom part of the amp firmly so it doesn't slip out when you snap the top off. PM me if you want some info where to order the disposable openers from.

i use a small glass cutter to score, then a pencap, takes 15 seconds max.

always try to snap the top of by hand, it either pops real easy or it doesnt, if it doesnt then use an amp opener, or a file to score the glass, every amp ive had brake i saw it coming because i was using way to much pressure
