Just wondering what you guys think about the pro's today. I personally do not like the phisiques we see in the pro's today. They're too big, the gut is all out of control. I much prefer the phisiques we saw in the early and mid 70's, especially arnold's. It's too bad a guy of Arnold's size wouldn't even stand a chance in the pros today as I much prefer those types of phisiques.

i've said this before, but i wouldn't mind seeing 2 seperate classes at the Olympia. one class for symmetry and an awesome physique, and another class for the mass freaks.

That would be interesting. There are a lot of bodybuilders out there that never stand a chance next to the freaks. But I don't see that happening soon...:(

I should get some $ together and start another league and find judges that will go for symmetry and definition more than just raw size!

some of the pros still have great physiques...dexter jackson is a good example....but i dont think hell ever be number one bc he isnt a massive animal compared to cutler victor or wolf....i respect both...but prefer the old school look...flex in his prime i think had one of the best physiques ever

I believe they're adding an under 205 class to the next olympia.

Personally I'd rather see the freaks than some dude standing up there trying to look all beautiful.

Ronnie, for God's sake, shrink the picture before you post it, you streched out and fucked up this entire thread!

Frank Zane had the best physique the world will ever see. He still has a great look.

I completely agree that the pros of yesterday had better overall physiques...much more pleasing to the eye...not to sound gay.

I just think that, in america anyway, we are alwasy concerned about bigger and better and more outlandish things...it tickles the brain to see what we can achieve, especially when others are not able to do so. I am in awe at the mass these guys pack on and completely compelled. My only problem with the whole things is that many of these people are killing themselves in the process just to make a buck. Its a shame that because we are such money driven people we do things that we know are deteriorating our bodies but as long as we are paid in the short term, we dont worry about the long...then i guess the ol addage goes, "live in the day, dunno if youll have tomorrow."

Don't get me wrong, i love AAS and all things that will increase my physique. I know I do things that may not be healthy but hell I wanna look good in the now knowing one day ill probably look like arnold does now, but atleast i looked damn good in the ealier stages of my life!

I enjoy seeing the mass freaks too, under 205 is mostly gonna be dominated by the shorter mass freaks imo. Plus didn't guys like arnold compete around 230-240? thats still pretty freakish with like 3-5% bodyfat.

VT i think you kinda hit it on the head there...A lot of those guys are killing themselves, plus that GH/IGF gut is gross looking. I wonder what gear dosages look like today vs back then ??

I work out at a Golds gym that has HUGE posters of all of the old Mr. O's up. Its crazy to see the changes over the years. You have Arnold, Sergio, etc then its fuckin Ronnie...crazy changes.

I'd much rather see Ronnie Coleman with his crazy lats, Jay with bicept that look like bowling balls with lines running threw them, Victor Martiez, who's huge and with near perfect symmetry. A physique like Shawn Rays and Zane's is cool in an artful sort of way but I still wanted to see Marcus Raul's video before Shawn's.

Nothing can compare to the golden age during the 70's. The guys today look a little bit freaky. Zane, Columbo, Arnie . . I actually wouldnt mind looking like them. When I first started lifting I bought Arnolds Encyclopedia and man do I get nostalgic when I go back and read through that book.

Every woman that reads through my M&F, Flex, or in particular MD magazine thinks that the modern pros look absolutely hideous..

I definitely think that they should implement different classes for the Olympia

Ienjoy the symetry of the golden age of bodybuilding more than the mass monsters of today. That being said I wouldnt mind being one of those monsters.

Too bad the IFBB would do everything they can to shut it down. They are assholes like that. It sucks but the days of symmetry are over.

The word is there is going to be 2 olympia classes, I don't know if its this year or next, I'll find for sure in the morning. It's going to be a 205 and under class, and then the original heavy weight class. I'll find out more in the morning. I would like to see it happen too.

It's not even just the symmetry / proportion of the golden age. A lot of the pro's today are very very symmetrical and very proportional, actually almost all of them. It's just the size is too big, and too unnatural. Yes arnold and Zane and those guys were all FREAKS but not so much that they looked cartoonish and outlandish. I guess thats what i really dislike so much about the pro phisiques today. That and that f*ing gut kills me.

Ok, this is what I found out, The IFBB is going to hold a trial competition at the olympia called the Sandow 205. If the trial turn out good, they will officially sanction the event in 2009. Only 12 of top competitors will get the invitation. There holding this trial because of the negative publicity they have recieved about the mass monsters always winning the olympia. I hope it works out, this way gives the smaller a guy a chance to win also. You have to admit, the small bodybuilder just doesn't have a chance against the big boys. I hope it happens.

I believe there only going to invite the competetors that have always competed at or under 205. So someone like David Henry wouldn't get the invite because I think he's competed at 208 or 210 before. But don't quote me on that, I'm not quite sure what the rules will be.
