I am on cycle now and am currently doing 30 mins cardio looking like this
5 min walk
5 min jog
5 min walk
5 min jog
5 min walk
5 min jog
Feel pretty good at the end of it but im wondering if anyone has any better cardio routines for stripping bodyfat?

I've been doing an interval type cardio w.o. on my spinning bike for a few years now. I laminated 4 different cards with different intensity's.
For example: The first 5 minutes are warm up then minute 6-7 is 70% max. HR, then min. 8-9 is 75% max. HR, then 10-11 is 80% max. HR, then 12-13 is 85% max. HR, then back down to 70% for two minutes, then repeat for a total of 35-50 minutes, depending on which card I use. The last rotation I take it up to 90% HR for one full minute.
It sounds confusing but I have each minute written down and what my heart rate should be at that exact minute, I am now able to hold it within a couple heart beats at the exact minute I am on. I hate cardio so the concentration takes my mind off of it and of course with the metal blasting in the background my sessions just fly by. I only do this about every other cardio session as it is pretty intense, the rest of the time is slo-mo 70-75% HR for 45 minutes.
I either use HIIT for short durations which is what SAMCAM is talking about. Or just crank the incline and do some low intensity cardio(HR under 130) for a longer duration. All the cardio I do is in the AM on nothing but black coffee and some ISO.

walking is best for stripping fat and keeping muscle. Walk at a pace like your trying to go somewhere but not too fast.. The only problem is time, you have to put in the miles for best results, like 6 imo. So you have to give up about an hour or so. When you walk your body is working slow enough to mobilize fat in time to give you energy, where as if you run, fat cannot be mobilized in time and you will burn carbs.

I've been a trainer for 12 yrs and have my clients who are overweight or clients who don't want to lose muscle do an inclined walk on the treadmill. Reason being....when you do slow cardio your body turns stored fat into Glycogen or Blood Glucose and is all used up and cosumed by the muscles in your body. There is nothing left to turn back into fat. When a person does fast cardio your body transforms fat into Carbohydrates and when the cardio is ceased it turns right back into fat.
I usually have clients set the treadmill to an incline of 10 and a speed of 3.5mph to start. If this rate is hard work I have them continue for 30 to 45 mins. always leveling off and cooling down for 5 mins. at the end. When this pace becomes too easy I have them raise the incline before the speed. Although it may take months, once the person reaches an incline of 15 and is doing the exercise sufficiently, I have them drop back down to an incline of 10 and raise the speed to 4.5mph. and work their way up from there again.
Anyway, I hope some of you find this info. helpful and if you ever need anything I'd be glad to try help.
I mix it up. I walk the tread mill @ a 4 deg. incline and 3 miles an hour, do the stair stepper on level 1, the recumbent bike on level 13, and I just tried the elliptical with the handles to work your upper body which isn't so bad.
All done first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

HIT is the best fat burner I know... 5 min warm up, sprint 1 minute, jog 2 minutes... this method has been shown to build cardio enurance faster as well as burn more fat than standard cario
You can mix it up and add incline/decline, speed changes as you like
Personally for cardio though I jump rope or swim when I have the time.

I use the crosstrainer with slow movement for a long duration. Nothing that will get me excessively tired. Also I alternate between step, cycling, crosstrainer and treadmill to keep the boredom away. Interval training for me has been the best. ex. 1min30s hard and then 1min30s slow and just repeat it for 30min to 40 min first thing in the morning.

The most effective cardio to burn fat that worked for me and preserved more muscles than previously was 40mins brisk walk, either outdoors or on the treadmill.

I do the similar routine with sprints.,,,,on a track I sprint the straight aways and walk the turns.

huh? essentially you said the same thing twice, your body turns fat into glycogen and your body turns fat into carbs???? The carbs your burn as energy is glycogen. Your body burns glycogen stores first, it cant moblize fat fast enough if your working hard.

I agree, however it doesnt burn fat while your training... this type of training increases metabolism quite a bit so you use more fat throughout the day. Very effective.
