Dear members-
My mother was recently diagnosed with lung cancer- small cell carcinoma. fortunately she had developed pneumonia and through the course of treatment and diagnosis the cancer was discovered and it seems it was discovered early as it hadn't spread anywhere and is actually not in the lung tissue itself, but in the airway between the lungs. She was diagnosed back in november and has been undergoing chemo treatments. I tried to talk to her doctor and find out what I could about how he is treating her overall health in regards to the devastating affect it has on the body and immune system, but didn't really get any info that helped me. What I want to know is: Is there anything in the way of steroid supplements that may help her cope and recover. My mom has always been physically strong for a woman, she'll be 52 in april so she's still young. She is so weak now that she can hardly lift and carry a basket of laundry, she has very little energy and I really worry about her immune system as she is unable to do much in the way of physical workouts to keep her system strong. If anybody knows anything that could help please get back with me. I'm not ready to say goodbye to her and I'm the type of person who would rather bite the snake's head off than wait for it to bite me.

My mom is battling lymphoma for the 5th time, in your mothers case the doc has probably prescibed some type of steroid, You should see times of exhaustion after a dose of chemo, the steroid the doc is to prescibe helps in the recovery from the chemo therapy, its noticable in the treated person by water retention, puffy face and joints, Get a list of the meds the doctor has prescibed and adminsterd, keep all this information in a notebook, with all doctor visits and notes on the discussions with the doc, i find this a great tool to keep up with the expected side effects of treatment, progress of treatment and overall understanding of the process, i have used this notebook in times of adverse reactions to treatment, its at your fingertips and ready to use when the unexpected arises, So get a list of all meds, PM them to me if you like, I will compare it to my mothers meds and help you in the research of the ones we cant identify, be strong and brave, like i said my mother has beat this four times, on her 5th time now and the cancer has stopped progressing so far, she is 58 and the toughest person i know.

Mag-oxid 400mg for indigestion
Paraplatin once every 3 weeks, keeps cancer cells from dividing/growing
Etoposide daily for 3 days every 3 weeks, another growth inhibitor
dexamethosone 10mg x 10ml IV x 3 days every 3 weeks
mpv? 1000mg x 3 days every 3 weeks
5% dextrose

She gets these at treatments every 3 weeks.

Thanks for the response.
They said today that the mass is gone. They're going to continue her treatment for another 6 weeks. Her b12 and iron were low this week, so they have added b12 injection once a week for 4 weeks then once a month after that and procrit to up red blood cell count to treat anemia. They are going to do another scan to make sure it hasn't spread and after chemo they are going to treat a mold infection in her lungs that they can't treat while she's on the chemo.

ok, i will match these up, probably have everything by friday, My sister does alot of the medical research and i will put her on it today, By what i see things are going well, The goal is to rid the body of the tumor which sounds like has happened, The meds she is getting at this time are for rebuilding to a degree, you will not want to add anything in due to drug reaction or breakdown, some will counteract the other, it takes time for them to get their strength back after chemo, Lots of green vegatables in diet, get a liquid multi-vitamin one that has a multitude of vitiamins and some herbs, make sure she is drinking water all the time, she should have a bottle in her hand almost all the time, my mothers recovery program exercise wise is basically that of a injured athlete, stretching, light stationary bike, then whirlpool for the pain in muscles and joints, have used the sauna for some of the water retention, but be careful with this due to their need to stay extra hydrated, and they will fall more susceptable to the heat because the body is run down.
