View Full Version : whats YOUR excuse

I was just wondering what some of your excuses are for sending money overseas when doing business at your local friendly western union. Last time i sent $ the bitch quized me for 5 minutes on why i was sending $ and to who and for what purpose. When i told her it was for donation as suggested on a suppliers website she just wanted to know "donation for what". So i was hoping someone has some good bluffs. Also i think everything would be less suspicious and easier to explain if all orders were rounded to the nearest 10. For example $872=$870 or $876=$880. I'm sure the supplier could make this work to his benefit and to be quite honest if i'm spending that much $ who gives a shit about a couple more bucks if it makes me look less conspicuous. So anyway give me some excuses and let me know what you think about the rounding system.

I own a trophy and engraving store and we process WU. Unless regulations have changed and I don't know about them, it isn't any of their friggin' business why and who you are sending the money to.
After you tell them it is a donation, they need not ask any more questions.
There is a spot on the WU machine that you type: reason for sending - donation/family member/rent/phone bill/mortgage, etc.
Over a certain amount ($3000.00 I think) they need the persons name because of tax reasons. But other than that she was just being nosey. Go somewhere else and she won't be able to make the processing fee on the transaction.........

I have only been asked once, and I told them it was not their business. That ended the conversation. Don't know what else to say, other than if it keeps happening, find another location:)

You only need to show your ID if you are sending more that $1000.00
Fuck her. Western Unions are all over the place I'd just go to different one. They don't give 2 shits around here.
What I've been wondering is what does the mailman think when a 5'9" 220lb man keeps signing for all these international packages? I think he might have a clue. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to put 2 and 2 together. I make sure I answer the door with baggy clothes but I still see him around my apartment complex a few times a week in normal clothes. That has me a little worried but I doubt he'll say anything.

i always say that my fiancee was originally from europe and has family there and im the working man so im sending money as a gift for holidays or birthdays...if its less that 1k no ID required so fake name can work
If you have to, just say its just a donation to a church. You are sending it to the poorest country in europe (according to wikipedia). That would make the most sense for some gringo sending money to you know where.

Man this is funny, i placed my first order with Alin today and was really nervous about going into the Western Union and getting interrogated.

Me too! :D
Luckily in my country they don't give a shit and I just give a sexy smile to the young girls behind the glass. They've never asked me anything. However, if they did I would just say that my maid had gone to her country on holiday and I owed her some money still. We have many eastern people over here so if it ever comes to that I'm sure it will stick! :D

I usually go to Rite Aid stores near my office. I work in a blue collar suburb of a big mid-western city, and most of the time the managers working there couldnt give two shits about you or where you send your money.

Not a pussy dude, just tough to say 'no officer, those pieces of international mail are not mine, I did not order them, I don't know what you are talking about" when your name is all over the transaction. We aren't talking about ebay items here.
Also, when I played a different game, WU was pretty notorious for turning over lists of 'repeat senders and recipients' to local and federal LE.

I just think it may seem 'funny' to someone if they happen to be looking (which they do), sending repeated 'donations' to a certain country when most people never use WU in their entire life, let alone sending $$ internationally.
I guess I am just a paranoid pussy...

I havent been questioned before, only used it twice though. But if some one asks me I`d say I am sending money to my friend to pay a deposit for a holiday we are going to, or I bought off a car, bike etc. and now paying back. friend in need, on holiday etc. be creative.
Personally, I`d say, but this is me. What does it matter, I am your customer, youre making money, what else do you need.
